October 2014 Meeting

Location:King & Spaulding
Attendance: 14

President Deborah Schander welcomed everyone to the second meeting of the 2014-2015 year and thanked King & Spaulding for hosting the event. Schander then introduced the speaker for meeting, Sarah Mauldin, Director of Library Services at Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP.

Continuing Education Grant Applications
Sarah Mauldin presented on how to apply for continuing education grants.   The major points Mauldin addressed were: (1) What are you looking for; (2) Where to look; (3) Getting the grant; (4) Recommending someone; and (5) After the grant.

Some of the highlights included where librarians can look for grants, such as professional organizations and vendors. When trying to get the grant, Mauldin noted that you must always be aware of the due date, note the grant requirements, and really care about the personal statement. Furthermore, Mauldin stressed that you must choose recommendations carefully. After receiving a grant, make sure to complete all of the requirements, which can sometimes include writing an article, and send thank you notes.

Next Meeting
Schander closed the meeting and invited everyone to join us for the next meeting on November 11, 2014. More information about the meeting will be provided by email.
